Swami Vivekananda

“Do not spend your energy in talking but meditate in silence; and do not let the rush of the outside would disturb you. When your mind is in the highest state, you are unconscious of it. Accumulate power in silence and become a dynamo of spirituality.”

-Swami Vivekananda

In Swami Vivekananda a glimpse of the perfect man is found. He was great. He was a disciple of Shri Ramakrishna Paramhansa. His guru, Shri Ramakrishna, said of him: "Narendra is a great soul, perfect in meditation. He breaks the veil of Maya into pieces with the sword of knowledge. The unshakable Maya can never control him.

The true nature of his extraordinary disciple was revealed to Shri Ramakrishna in a vision even before their first meeting. Swami Vivekananda was an ancient sage immersed in deep trance, his personality as immovable as a rock. Shri Ramakrishna, the lord of samadhi, awakened that divine being by meditation as it were, giving a mighty push to that rock and directing his way across the world, radiating spirituality and narcissism and ignorance was destroying.

Sri Ramakrishna told his other disciples a vision about Narendra:

One day I saw my mind rising high in samadhi on a luminous path. As it climbed higher and higher, I found ideal forms of deities on both sides of the path. The mind then reaches the outer limits of that realm, where a luminous barrier separated the realm of relative existence from the absolute. Overcoming that obstacle, the mind entered the transcendental realm, where no material beings were visible. But the very next moment I saw seven revered sages sitting there in the samadhi.

What is Samadhi?

The higher state of meditation is called samadhi. Its importance has been told in all religions like Hindu, Jain, Buddhist and Yogi etc. When the seeker is completely immersed in the meditation of the object and he does not have the knowledge of his existence, then he is called Samadhi.

It seemed to me that these sages must have surpassed not only men but also the gods in knowledge and purity, in renunciation and love. Lost in admiration, I was contemplating His greatness, when I saw a portion of that inseparable light field condensed into the Divine Child. The child came to a sage, held his neck softly by his loving arms, and addressed him in a melodious voice, tired of pulling his mind down from the state of samadhi. That magical touch awoke from his superconscious state and the sage, and he fixed his half-open eyes on the wonderful child. With great joy the stranger said to him, "I am going downstairs. You too come with me." The sage remained silent, but his gentle appearance agreed. As soon as I saw Narendra, I recognized him. This was the same child I had seen with the sage as a divine child. I recognized him as that sage.” Later, Shri Ramakrishna revealed the fact that the divine child was none other than himself.

Swami Vivekananda was born on 12 January 1863. His house name was Narendra Dutt. He was a child of sharp intelligence. He had a strong desire to attain God. This was the reason that he went to the Brahmo Samaj but his mind was not satisfied. His father died in 1884. The responsibility of the family fell on his shoulders. The financial condition of the house was not good. Even in extreme poverty, he used to do guest hospitality with great enthusiasm. Being hungry himself, he used to feed others.

At the age of 25, he took initiation from Guru Ramkrishnabha Paramahansa ji and fulfilled the responsibility of being a disciple with full devotion and devotion. Swami Vivekananda had completely devoted his life to his guru, Swami Ramakrishna Paramahansa. He used to engage in Guru's service regardless of his home and himself.

In 1893, the World Religions Council was being held in Chicago, USA. Swami Vivekanandan ji reached there as the representatives of India. The people of Europe-America used to look at the subjugated Indians very inferiorly at that time. There people tried a lot that Swami Vivekananda should not be given time to speak in the Sarva Dharma Parishad, but due to the efforts of an American professor, he got some time, but people were stunned after hearing his thoughts.

The whole hall reverberated with thunderous applause. He introduced the world to Indian culture and civilization. Many Americans accepted his discipleship. Today there are many branches of Ramakrishnapa Paramahansa Mission in America.

Swami Vivekananda ji believed that without spiritual knowledge and Indian philosophy, the world would be an orphan.
